University of Puerto Rico StaffThe Ophthalmic Technology program at the University of Puerto Rico is the only accredited academic program in Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean, that educates and trains Ophthalmic Technicians. The program received its first accreditation in 1988, and the last accreditation visit was in July 2018, in which the accreditation was extended with full acceptance indications until July 2023. Currently, the program has eight (8) students enrolled with excellent academic and professional progress. The students are all from different parts and municipalities of the island. The vast majority of students have previous academic degrees; however, they have enrolled in the program in order to expand their knowledge in the field of visual health. Immediately to six months or less after graduation, the majority of the graduates of the Ophthalmic Technology program are placed in jobs.
